A mysterious trembling disease “Dinga-Dinga” from Uganda.
In the Ugandan district of Bundibugyo, an unknown disease is spreading, which the locals have called “Dinga-Dinga.
” It primarily affects women and adolescent girls, causing them to experience convulsions and uncontrollable shaking, “like during dancing.” So far, no one has died from this disease, but at least 300 people have been infected.
Many of those affected shake so severely that they cannot walk. The district’s chief doctor, Kiita Kristofer, believes the disease has not yet spread beyond the district and that the affected individuals respond well to antibiotics, recovering within a week.
However, the cause of this disease is still unknown, and patient samples have just been sent for analysis to the Ministry of Health’s laboratory for study.
According to the local newspaper “Monitor,” patients with the Dinga symptoms were first recorded in early 2023, but at that time, these cases appeared to be isolated. However, several months ago, an outbreak of the disease occurred.
“I felt weakness and numbness, and then my body began to shake uncontrollably when I tried to walk.
It was very alarming. I was taken to the Bundibugyo hospital for treatment, and thank God, now I’m fine,” says 18-year-old Peishen Katuseme.
