Atheroma (sebaceous cyst) is a tumor-like formation that occurs due to the blockage of the external opening of the gland’s excretory duct. Atheromas can appear on any part of the body where hair grows, but they are most commonly found on the head (in the hair), back, or behind the ear, which are areas rich in sebaceous glands. They can reach large sizes.
Causes of atheroma: They occur due to the blockage of sebaceous glands; inflammation of lymph nodes; sometimes the appearance of a boil. Do not squeeze a boil on the outer ear, as this may cause an infection. For treatment, insert a cotton swab soaked in Vishnevsky ointment into the external auditory canal. This will help the boil to mature faster, ensuring the drainage of pus from it.
If a lump appears, it is necessary to see a doctor who will determine the cause and prescribe treatment.
Appearance: The lump (atheroma) looks like a dense elastic capsule. When pressed, a person feels slight pain, more often discomfort. Atheroma initially has a small size but can grow over time. It does not significantly impact a person’s health, apart from causing discomfort and a cosmetic defect on the skin.
If you discover such a formation (atheroma, lump) on your body, you should urgently see a doctor to prevent possible inflammation and suppuration inside the formation.
Treatment of Lump (Atheroma) with Folk Remedies
- Urine compress: Apply a compress soaked in urine to the lump, changing it as often as possible—every 1-2 hours.
- Bran compress: Heat wheat bran well on a dry frying pan, fill an old nylon stocking with them, tie it, and wrap it around your neck. Lie with it until the bran in the stocking cools. Repeat this procedure 3 or 4 times, and the lumps will disappear.
- Baked onion ointment: Take 1 onion, bake it in the oven, then grind it in a meat grinder. Add 1 tablespoon of grated household soap to the resulting mixture and mix everything. Apply the mixture to the lump, cover it with a bandage, and leave it for a day. Change the mixture 3 times a day.
- Burdock root ointment: Wash burdock root, grind it in a meat grinder, mix with heated pork fat (or butter), and let it infuse for 3 days. Then squeeze through cheesecloth and apply as a compress to the inflamed area for 2-3 days. The atheroma will open.
- Garlic ointment: Mix minced garlic with oil to make an ointment. Rub the mixture into the lump, massaging lightly.
- Silver cross: Apply a silver cross to the lump for 4 weeks.
- Coltsfoot leaves: Wash a fresh leaf with water, dry it, and secure it on the lump. Change the leaf twice a day.
- Peony root decoction: Take 2 tablespoons of minced peony roots, pour 200 ml of boiling water over them, put on the stove, and boil for 4-5 minutes. Cool the decoction, strain it, and use it as a compress.
- Vishnevsky ointment: Apply Vishnevsky ointment to the lump. This will help reduce inflammation and expel the formed pus but not the fat deposit. Apply a small amount of ointment to a sterile bandage, place it on the affected area, and leave it for 68 hours. Change the dressing several times a day.
- Aloe mixture: Mix 1 tablespoon of crushed aloe leaves, 5 crushed chestnut seeds, and 1 tablespoon of honey. Apply the resulting mixture to the atheroma until the pus is completely drawn out.
