Stevia is the most well-known sugar substitute. This plant is actively used in Japan, but it is not difficult to find it in our pharmacies. Even sweets become beneficial when prepared with stevia. They are recommended for excess weight, diabetes, and various metabolic disorders. This is because stevia contains steviol glycosides, which do not affect the body in the same way as sugar.
Natural sweetener stevia is 15 times sweeter than sugar. Therefore, it is added to dishes in much smaller quantities: instead of a tablespoon of sugar, 3/4 teaspoon of crushed raw material is needed. Stevia is used for baking in the form of leaf powder (crushed in a coffee grinder) or a water infusion, which is easy to brew and make into syrup.
In recipes for dietary baking, milkshakes, jellies, casseroles, compotes, and teas, stevia reduces the calorie content of dishes. If you don’t like the herbal taste, combine it with lemon zest or honey.
