Any homemaker knows that baking soda should always be in the house. It is an essential component of many culinary recipes. Additionally, in terms of cleaning properties, regular baking soda is on par with many advertised cleaning products, and rinsing your mouth with a baking soda solution can even relieve toothache! Overall, it’s a useful and necessary product. However, not everyone knows that baking soda and salt are also effective remedies for acne and blackheads on the skin. Important note: this method is too aggressive for very sensitive and irritation-prone skin, so if you have such skin, it’s better to choose another, gentler remedy.

Below are the most popular and effective recipes using baking soda and salt for acne and blackheads.

Baking Soda for Acne and Blackheads

The simplest method is a light peel with baking soda. First, prepare your face by cleaning off makeup and impurities with your usual facial cleanser, then leave your skin damp, not dry. Take a small pinch of baking soda and gently rub it into areas with blackheads (usually the forehead, nose, and chin – the T-zone) for a couple of minutes. The active components of baking soda effectively dissolve oil, which, when accumulated in pores, clogs them and forms sebaceous plugs, pimples, and blackheads. You will see the effect after the first procedure – small blackheads almost disappear, and large ones become less noticeable. Don’t be alarmed if your skin tingles a bit; this is normal.

You can also make masks with baking soda for blackheads. For this, slightly dilute some baking soda with warm water to get a thick paste. Apply it to areas with blackheads and rinse off with warm water after 15-20 minutes. These masks are recommended to be done 1-2 times a week.

Another way to get rid of blackheads with baking soda is to lather your pre-cleaned, damp face with baby soap. Dip a wet finger into a container with baking soda and gently rub it on problem areas of your face. Don’t rinse off immediately; leave the mask on for 5-7 minutes.

Mix 2-3 tablespoons of flour with 1 teaspoon of baking soda. Add enough warm water to make a thick paste. Apply the mask to clean facial skin, and after 10-15 minutes, rinse with warm water. The mask is done once a week, with a total of 6-8 procedures.

Baking Soda and Salt for Acne and Blackheads

Take equal amounts of baking soda and fine salt, one teaspoon each will suffice, and mix them. Pour a little gel or foam cleanser onto your palm, lather it, then add the baking soda and salt mixture. Gently massage this scrub into problem areas of the skin for one to two minutes, then rinse with warm water and apply a moisturizer. This peeling reduces inflammation, dissolves accumulated oil in the pores, and tightens the pores. This procedure is recommended to be done no more than once a week.

Baking soda and salt for acne and blackheads can also be mixed simply with water (preferably boiled or filtered), or hydrogen peroxide to get a thick paste, and then applied to the skin in the same manner as the previous example. Adding a couple of drops of tea tree essential oil will enhance the effect.

After procedures with baking soda (and salt), it is recommended to treat the facial skin with a toner to tighten the pores.
