200 grams of grated nutmeg are infused in 1 liter of vodka and left to steep for 10 days. Take 20 drops three times a day over a long period of time.
Why nutmeg specifically? What properties does this exotic spice possess? After all, doctors treat varicose veins using various methods, including traditional medications taken in courses twice a year (Detralex, Venarus), wearing compression garments, and surgical methods.
Sclerotherapy and laser treatment can’t be overlooked either. However, the treatment of varicose veins with nutmeg stands out because this spice is successfully used in Ayurveda (Ayurvedic medicine).
Medicinal Properties of Nutmeg
The healing effects of nutmeg extend to nearly the entire body:
- Toning effect,
- Improves nutrient absorption,
- Boosts serotonin production (the “happiness hormone”),
- Relieves bloating,
- Astringent (helps with constipation),
- Reduces headaches,
- Calms the nervous system,
- Treats varicose veins and phlebitis (vein inflammation), stimulates blood circulation.
Have you noticed the opposite effects of this nut on the body? Depending on when you consume a drink containing nutmeg, it can either energize you or, conversely, serve as a good sleep aid.
Treating Varicose Veins with Nutmeg
For treatment, use whole nutmegs, not powder. Grate them (if they’re soft) or grind them in a coffee grinder; some even suggest crushing them with a spoon. The reason is that powder quickly loses its healing properties as the oil “dries up,” so freshly prepared powder is more beneficial.
Every morning for 2-3 weeks, prepare the following drink: pour a glass of boiling water over 1/2 or 1/4 teaspoon of the powder, let it cool slightly, then add 1 tablespoon of honey (do not add honey to boiling water, as it loses its healing properties). Let the drink steep for 20 minutes.
Drink this half an hour before breakfast every day. It will have a toning effect. If taken in the evening, consume it two hours after the last meal, in which case it will act as a sleep aid.
Another method to treat varicose veins with nutmeg is by making an alcohol tincture. This method is more prolonged and not suitable for those who are contraindicated for alcohol-based medications.
To make this tincture, take 1 liter of vodka, 200 grams of grated nutmeg, and let it steep for 10 days. Then, take 20 drops three times a day for several months.
Nutmeg Contraindications
Nutmeg treatment is not recommended for everyone. Despite its numerous beneficial properties and rich vitamin content, this seemingly harmless nut can cause serious harm if its usage rules are neglected.
I want to caution those who try to cure everything all at once in one day – if you consume 3-4 nuts at once, your body’s reaction may be unpredictable. Some people experience hallucinations, while others may suffer from serious poisoning. Overdose is dangerous! Therefore, start with minimal doses (literally 1/5 teaspoon).
Additionally, as with any food product, an allergic reaction may develop. No one is immune to this. In such cases, it’s good to have a Suprastin or Tavegil tablet on hand. In more severe cases, call an ambulance.
I’m not trying to scare you, but as the saying goes, “forewarned is forearmed.”
