Facial Hydrosols: Natural Skincare Uses, Recipes and Benefits

Hydrosols for the Face

Greetings, dear readers of the blog Ukrainian Folk Medicine! Today we will talk about what facial hydrosols are and how to use them in skin care.

All hydrosols for the face have an acidity level of pH < 7 (from 3 to 6.2), which allows the skin to maintain its protective acid mantle. This means that beneficial bacteria, which help strengthen the skin’s defense mechanism, thrive in an acidic environment and actively maintain the acid–alkaline balance on the surface of the epidermis. If the acid mantle is too thin or damaged, for example by soap or aggressive cosmetics, the deeper layers of the skin remain unprotected, losing moisture and nutrients.

Hydrosols for the face

Floral water provides food for beneficial bacteria, increases their activity, and helps our skin fight aging. In addition, the acidic environment suppresses the growth of viruses, fungi, and acne-causing bacteria, which is essential in caring for sensitive and problem skin. Convincing, isn’t it?

How to use hydrosols in skincare?

Two-phase makeup remover

We can prepare a natural and effective two-phase cleanser! Many famous cosmetic brands offer such products for a considerable price. But we can make it ourselves!

Recipe:

  • 50 ml of floral water suitable for your skin type

  • 50 ml of base oil (olive, grape seed, wheat germ, etc.)

Pour the ingredients into a bottle, close it tightly, and that’s it! Shake before use, moisten a cotton pad with the solution, and remove makeup and impurities from the skin. Simple!

This homemade cleanser contains no preservatives, fragrances, petroleum derivatives, or other skin-unfriendly components. Your skin will thank you with radiance and health!

Cleansing and moisturizing toner

Floral water is already a ready-made toner! Natural and safe. In addition to moisturizing, it nourishes and renews cell structures, strengthens collagen and elastin fibers. The skin becomes fresh and firm.

Use at the toning stage in the morning and evening.

Ice cube massage

Facial, neck, chest, and décolleté massage with ice cubes is one of the most effective cosmetic procedures! Frozen hydrosol can replace plain water and increase the effect many times over. But remember: ice cube massage is not recommended in cases of inflammation or couperose!

Moisturizing skin spray

A wonderful product, especially in winter and summer. In winter, indoor heating dries out both skin and hair. A hydrosol spray helps maintain skin hydration and prevents premature wrinkles.

In summer, the skin needs additional protection against UV rays and support for the acid mantle as a factor of skin health in harsh conditions. You can use this spray several times a day if your face is free of makeup.

Compresses for the eye area

Hydrosol compresses can improve the delicate skin around the eyes! They reduce puffiness, bags, bruises, and dark circles, and increase skin firmness.

Soak two cotton pads with floral water and apply to the eye area. Lie down comfortably, relax, and dream of something pleasant. Rest for 15–20 minutes.

Of course, compresses can also be applied to inflamed skin areas with pustules. For such compresses, chamomile, calendula, lemon balm, succession (celandine), or lavender hydrosols are suitable.

Clay and other masks

Using hydrosol instead of water to dilute clay is much more effective, isn’t it? Under the mask, pores open, and the healing volatile components of the hydrosol are absorbed, nourishing and strengthening the skin. Now you know how to use hydrosols for the face at home.
