The calendula flower is quite easy to spot among a multitude of other colors. Its bright color and delicate petals distinguish it.
Clusters of marigolds (as they are commonly called), like sprinkles of little suns, sparkle on the green meadow.
This plant grows in warm and moderately warm climates. It is widespread in the European part of Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, as well as in the North Caucasus.
Additionally, the plant can be found in Asia Minor and Southern Europe.
Marigold is cultivated in many countries around the world as both an ornamental and medicinal plant.
It is worth noting that calendula is a unique plant for medicinal purposes. Many pharmaceutical preparations are made from it: infusions and tinctures, creams and ointments, as well as tablets.
Application of calendula ointment
Calendula ointment has quite useful properties. It is a practically universal remedy that is used both as a standalone preparation and as part of medicinal and cosmetic products.
Calendula ointment has antiseptic and antibacterial properties, as well as regenerative and anti-inflammatory properties.
It is well tolerated by children, so it is used for burns and dermatitis, as well as as a protective agent for the skin against harsh weather conditions.
Moreover, this ointment is excellent for healing cracks on the nipples during breastfeeding.
The ointment is also applied for cuts, abrasions, burns, as well as insect bites. Furthermore, the ointment effectively fights against skin inflammations, eczema, varicose veins, and even scars.
Calendula ointment helps to combat acne outbreaks. When applied to the skin, the pores shrink, sebum is secreted, and its excess is removed. A positive aspect of calendula ointment is that it restores the skin, making it more elastic and softer.
If your skin is cracked and rough, it is recommended to apply calendula ointment to the affected area, and you can be sure that the positive result will not be long in coming.
Additionally, calendula ointment effectively relieves skin irritation on the hands from contact with chlorinated water, sunlight, and air. Therefore, calendula ointment is an indispensable tool for the female population as a means of daily care. However, the ointment is also beneficial for men. With its help, irritated skin can be soothed after shaving.
Calendula ointment for heels
Calendula ointment can also restore cracked heel skin.
For this purpose, you will need one tube of calendula ointment (twenty grams) and one ampoule of liquid vitamin A (ten milliliters). Mix and transfer to a clean jar.
Store in the refrigerator.
This vitamin ointment softens the skin on the heels and makes it smooth. It also effectively heals cracks and improves the appearance of nails.
Apply calendula ointment with vitamin A to washed feet, slightly treated with a pumice stone. Then put on cotton socks. For therapeutic purposes, apply twice a day for three weeks. Then use as needed.
Recipes for making calendula ointment at home.
Recipe #1.
Four grams of beeswax;
Sixty milliliters of calendula oil.
Combine the oil with the wax and place on a water bath over low heat. The mixture should be stirred continuously until the wax is completely dissolved.
After the mixture has acquired a homogeneous consistency, a drop of ointment should be dripped onto a cool surface and allowed to cool.
The ointment is ready if the mixture has a creamy consistency. If the mixture is too thick, add a little more calendula oil, and if it is too thin, add wax. Transfer the finished ointment to a jar and let it cool. Store in the refrigerator.
Recipe #2.
Two grams of beeswax;
Sixty milliliters of calendula oil;
Eight grams of Shea butter or cocoa butter.
The process of preparing the ointment is similar to the process of preparing ointment according to the first recipe. The only difference is the consistency of the ointment, which is more plastic according to this recipe.
Recipe #3.
Sixty grams of pork lard;
Six grams of dried calendula flowers.
Melt the pork lard in a water bath and add the dried calendula flowers, mix thoroughly, and leave for thirty minutes on a water bath. The mixture should be stirred occasionally. Then remove it, strain it, and pour it into a prepared container.
It is worth noting that according to this recipe, the ointment becomes significantly lighter after solidifying. Pork fat can also be replaced with mutton suet, but pork fat will still be better.
Finally, it is worth noting that calendula ointment is not recommended for use by people who have hypersensitivity to this plant. Side effects of using the ointment may include allergic reactions on the skin.
