Varicose veins are a rather unpleasant condition affecting up to 40% of the adult population worldwide. Not only do the nodules on the veins look unattractive, but they are also dangerous due to the possibility of blood clots. Varicose veins should and can be treated, and preferably, the earlier, the better. The most effective folk remedies for varicose veins are presented below.
Recipes
Garlic and Butter for Varicose Veins
This procedure is done in the evening before bedtime. Crush garlic (make sure to use the white peel!), and mix it with butter in a ratio of 1:2. Apply the resulting mixture to areas with bulging veins, cover with parchment paper, wrap with a bandage, and leave overnight. In the morning, wash off the mixture and wear something warm on your legs.
Effective but Long-term Treatment with Green Tomatoes
Apply slices of tomatoes to the affected areas and secure them with a bandage, for example. These procedures should be done at night for a year until the nodules completely disappear.
Nettle Treatment
Pour a glass of boiling water over 2 tablespoons of nettle, let it infuse for 1 hour, then strain. Drink the infusion three times a day, a quarter of a glass each time. The treatment course lasts six months according to the following scheme: drink the infusion for 4 weeks, then take a 2-week break. During this time, it is recommended to avoid smoked foods, fatty meats, and fried fish, replacing them with boiled alternatives.
Nutmeg for Varicose Veins
Grind nutmeg in a coffee grinder. Pour a tablespoon of the powder into a glass of boiling water, add one tablespoon of honey, and mix well. After half an hour, the infusion is ready for consumption. Drink a glass one hour before breakfast and another one two hours later. It is also recommended to include pine nuts in your diet.
Antonovka Apples for Varicose Veins and Thrombophlebitis
Antonovka apples, specifically an infusion made from them, are very good in fighting varicose veins and thrombophlebitis. Drop 3 apples into boiling water (1 liter), cover, and leave in a warm place. After 4 hours, mash the apples without removing them from the water, mix well, then strain the infusion. Take 50 ml of the mixture, mixed with a spoonful of honey, twice a day—before breakfast and before bed.
Horse Chestnut Tincture
Put 50 g of horse chestnut flowers into a jar, pour 0.5 liters of alcohol over them, and let it infuse for two weeks, shaking it daily. Strain. Take one tablespoon of the tincture three times a day before meals for a week, then take a two-week break and repeat. For noticeable results, you should go through 3 courses of treatment.
Herb Compresses
Apply chickweed to the affected areas, and place a plantain leaf, burdock leaf, or pounded cabbage leaf on top. Wrap the leg with a bandage and leave it for 30 minutes. Do at least 4 of these procedures per day.
Potato Compresses
Peel several potatoes and grate them finely. Apply the resulting pulp to the painful areas to ease the pain.
Dandelion Root Ointment
Prepare a good pain relief ointment from dandelion roots. Wash and dry the dandelion roots, then grind and boil them. Add lard to the resulting puree to thicken it, and mix thoroughly. Apply to the affected areas. Store the ointment in the refrigerator.
MikulÃn’s Exercise
Stand on your toes, lift your heels slightly off the floor, then sharply drop them down. Repeat 30-60 times. Do the exercise 3-5 times a day.
Hop Infusion
Hop has proven effective in fighting various diseases, including varicose veins. Pour a glass of boiling water over several dry hop cones and let them infuse for 15 minutes. Drink a glass of the infusion 30 minutes before meals. Compresses made from this infusion will increase the effectiveness of the treatment and help deal with the ailment faster.
