The beneficial effects of valerian on the nervous system were observed by ancient Greek physicians. Additionally, the plant was used as a spasmolytic, recommended for gastrointestinal disorders, kidney problems, and more. However, nowadays, valerian is better known as a sedative.
Preparations based on it, as well as independently prepared infusions or tea from valerian root, are used to relieve stress, reduce excitability, treat insomnia, migraines, heart issues, and more.
One of the simplest remedies based on valerian is an infusion made from the plant’s root using the cold method. It is highly effective due to the high concentration of bioactive substances that valerian releases during the infusion process.
