Treatment of Gums with Folk Remedies
Gum disease is most common in adults, especially men. Bacteria living in the mouth interact with mucous membranes and food particles to form a colorless sticky substance known as plaque. Plaque continuously deposits on the gums and teeth, and if not removed with a toothbrush and floss, it hardens and erodes the soft tissues of the gums.
The gums begin to swell, redden, and bleed. The initial stage of gum disease is called gingivitis, and if not treated in time, it can develop into a more serious condition known as periodontitis.
As the disease progresses, tooth sensitivity, enamel loss, bad breath, bleeding, and painful gums, gum recession, and pain while chewing appear. People with conditions such as diabetes, cancer, or AIDS, and those who smoke, are more prone to developing gum disease. Fortunately, there are folk remedies for treating gums. Here are some of them:
Mustard Oil
This time-tested folk remedy for treating gums quickly destroys bacteria. Mustard oil has powerful anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and analgesic properties that not only eliminate infection but also provide significant relief from swelling and pain.
Take a teaspoon of mustard oil and add a pinch of salt. Thoroughly massage your gums and teeth with this mixture for five minutes, then rinse your mouth with warm water. Use this massage twice a day. This remedy will instantly stop bleeding and promote gum healing.
Neem
There’s nothing better or simpler than neem for treating gums with folk remedies. This age-old remedy has powerful antibacterial, antimicrobial, antifungal, antiseptic, and anti-inflammatory properties that quickly destroy bacteria, stop further gum damage, and promote quick healing.
Grind a few dry neem leaves into a fine powder. Add a pinch of salt and a few drops of mustard oil to a teaspoon of the powder. Massage your gums and teeth with this mixture three times a day.
Alum
Alum has very powerful antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and cleansing properties. Grind alum into a fine powder and store it in a jar. Take a glass of warm water, add a teaspoon of alum powder, and rinse your mouth three times a day. This will help stop bleeding, pain, and bad breath.
Aloe Vera
This succulent plant is widely used for treating all kinds of infections and diseases due to its powerful antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antifungal, and antibiotic properties.
Take a fresh aloe vera leaf and remove the peel. Put a piece of the gel-like pulp in your mouth and chew until it fully mixes with saliva. Move the juice all around your mouth for five minutes, then spit it out. Do this three times a day, and your gums will become healthy.
Lemon
Gum treatment with folk remedies can be done using lemon. Squeeze the juice of one lemon and add a bit of salt to make a thick paste. Rub this paste on all sides of your teeth and gums, hold for five minutes, then rinse your mouth with water. Lemon juice contains a lot of vitamin C, which kills bacteria and reduces swelling and pain.
