Various parts of black elderberry contain valuable biologically active substances, with the highest concentration found in the flowers. They are rich in:
• rutin;
• choline;
• essential oils;
• vitamin C;
• organic acids (malic, valerianic, etc.).
This chemical composition gives elderberry blossoms the properties necessary to overcome cold symptoms, especially cough. Elderberry:
• has anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects;
• destroys viruses and bacteria;
• increases sweating, eliminating toxins from the body;
• promotes thinning of phlegm and accelerates its removal;
• saturates the body with ascorbic acid, strengthening the immune system.
Elderberry serves as the basis for various forms of remedies used for colds: drops, gargles, inhalations, and infusions for internal use. For relief, a decoction is also beneficial.
INGREDIENTS
• 2 tsp black elderberry flowers
• 400–500 ml water
PREPARATION
• Put elderberry flowers in a saucepan or pot.
• Bring water to a boil and pour it over the plant material.
• Place the container in a boiling water bath for 15 minutes.
• Afterward, let the remedy infuse for at least 45 minutes.
• Strain the mixture.
There are two ways to use this decoction for a cold:
• Drink 100 ml warm, 15 minutes before meals;
• Dilute half a cup of the remedy with water and drink it like tea, also before meals.
Consume elderberry at least 3-4 times a day.
